Judging in NPWA
One of the biggest things I’m sure will come up is “What do you look for in an RP?”
I’m going to preface this by saying that no, I do not believe in using a rubric. While I acknowledge that many places use them without a lot of issue, I personally want to avoid adding too much of a sense of objectivity to this, because efedding is anything but that. Great writing is great writing, but I’d rather explain what I feel than try to call it by a number. (There’s a joke about the stat tracking thing here, I know)
With the 2 and 3k caps, I’d like to generally see a good split of promo/match relevance and character development. I’m not overly picky on what that looks like in terms of style or content. Get deep. Indulge. Do you. Sell you, the match, and make us invested.
For shoot, I just like to feel that there’s passion and conviction in the character’s voice. I personally like to try to shoot “hard”, but I’ve read plenty that are just focused on selling the moment that hit just as well.
For CD, again, not picky. However, if you can find those moments to tuck in those little tie-ins between it and shoot and get some cool metaphors in, I’m a sucker for that. Seriously though, go hyper fiction or realistic. Writing is generally better when someone is writing the type of material they want to write.
As a general rule of thumb, I consider the promo/match relevance to be what shows that you’re invested in the show/match/opponent and your character development portion to be what gets the reader invested in you.
Sample RPs
One idea that was brought up to me was to give an example of what I consider to be exceptional RPing. What better way to show people what I like then by showing people a handful of RPs I thought were very good?
Obviously, I could pull plenty more, but feel this is a good range of what I dig.
Any other questions, feel free to ask!
