A podium is set up for a press conference of sorts, complete with a sheet containing the NPWA logo and website address behind two wooden chairs. Chairs that will be filled soon enough by the people who called this 'press conference', if that's what you wish to call it.
That being, the duo of Generation Force.
There are cameras set up to record the conference, but no journalists or reporters in the building. That's because as much as it may give off the illusion of a press conference, it is more akin to an open mic session for the two men, as they prepare not just for their tag team championship match on Night One of the NPWA's regular season, but also the battle royal pre season event, where the 2 men will be looking to guarantee their spot in the playoffs.
If you asked them though, they're only doing it so that their potential opponents have an opportunity to gameplan for them - make it fair so to speak, as they're gonna make the playoffs regardless. Either way, they figured they may as well do this. Build some hype and generate interest in the event.
Amari is the first to walk onto the stage, taking his seat before placing a bottle of water on the table. He looks into the row of cameras, before Luka makes his way onto the stage, taking the other seat and placing his own bottle down.
Amari: Finally. It's time y'all got some real stars here. Two men who you should be more than keeping tabs on. Or cordially seeing as 'threats' - because the two of us --- we are the threats. We are the ones who the moment we step into the ring, you know are gonna make sure that they get the job done. That they are gonna make sure that the competition, if they can even truly be called that, are buried before they even got their chance.
Luka: I mean, just look at the two of us. Do we look like your average person? Do we look like a gust of wind could send us flying? No, but that is something that you could easily say about the vast majority of the roster. Whether they wanna admit it or not. After all, have any of them even seen the interior of a gym?
Amari manages to mask a chuckle, his eyes narrowing.
Amari: Of course not. They probably don't even know how to bench press like we do. Hence why they have to latch onto the whole narrative that we do PEDs. Nah bruh, we just know what a gym is. Y'all can't handle it when people look like legitimate Greek Gods and it shows. No wonder most of you look like jokes who wouldn't be out of place at a circus.
Luka flashes a smile, but soon returns to his stoic expression.
Luka: If that sounds mean to you, then we suggest looking in a mirror. After all, there's a reason that people take us two seriously and see the vast majority of you as nothing more than high schoolers playing a part.
Amari: Or bench players acting like starters.
Luka gives Amari a glance, smiling.
Luka: I hate it.
Amari returns the smile, as the cameras 'flash' before the two men focus back onto them.
Amari: It doesn't matter though, because you're all about to step into the lion's den, with two lions who won't waste a single second in tearing you to shreds and leaving nothing but flesh and bones behind. It doesn't matter if you believe you are god's gift to the sport or if you've been there and done that wherever you have been in the past. It's irrelevant now, because this isn't there. You aren't in those old playgrounds any more, as much as you might want to convince yourselves that things will be the same.
Luka: You're stepping into our playground. A place where all that matters is breaking you down. Making you understand that you have never seen a force like us. You have never met a unit that can stand on our level - an entity that can dare look us in the eyes and tell us they are better.
Luka chuckles.
Luka: Try to find one. We dare you. We'll even wait for you to give us an answer.
The two pause for about 35 seconds, as if to wait for a response that they know isn't coming.
Luka: Thought so.
Amari: I know what you're thinking. Isn't a rumble every person for themselves? How are the 2 of you going to handle that? The answer, my friends, is simple. We'll dispatch of everybody else then put on a masterclass to see which one of us is the better man. We did it in college and for us, this is going to be no different.
Luka interjects.
Luka: Spoiler - it's me.
Amari gives him a death glare, putting his bottle back on the table, having taken a swig when Luka interjected.
Amari: I wouldn't be so sure about that. Who won the last time we stepped into the ring?
Luka, having taken a swig of his own water, gives him a nod as if to say 'touchè'.
Luka: It doesn't really matter though, seeing as regardless of which one of us is the one to walk out with the victory, it will result in the same outcome. That is, us securing our seat in the playoffs.
Amari: We were gonna do it anyway, but this just means that you have some time to gameplan for us when playoffs rolls around. It won't matter though - because in turn, it allows us to use the regular season to scout. To make sure that we know your strengths and your weaknesses so we can bring the latter to the forefront when it matters the most.
Luka nods in agreement.
Luka: You won't be able to do the same to us, because unlike the rest of y'all - we have no weaknesses. We have nothing that you can even try to pick apart in our games. Something that you are gonna learn, not just in this battle royal, but when you have to face us in the regular season too.
It's Amari who now interjects.
Amari: Did you think we wouldn't be taking the regular season seriously? You mustn't know us well enough then. Because it's still our chance to send a message. To make sure that y'all understand that you just don't have the dawg in you to match us. To even think about being able to knock us off our perch, even before the playoffs. To us, it'll be our statement.
Luka: We don't just plan on winning the championship. We don't just plan on being tag team champions.
The two shake their heads.
Amari: No. In the words of the legend Derrick Rose 'why can't we be MVP of the league'? Yes, I said we - because we're both gonna be joint MVPs.
The two men pauses for adulation and the cameras, knowing they have just given them a soundbite. One that they will likely latch onto as the season progresses, either as a way to show why betting on yourself is a positive or to throw back in their faces.
Not that they care either way.
They wouldn't have said it if they didn't truly believe it. It's one of the things that separates them from most people. They say what they mean and with their whole chest. They won't waffle around and try to hide from their own words.
Luka: Write it down. Record it if you want, because I promise you that unlike the vast majority of people - we cash our cheques.
Amari: When we say something, the best thing you guys can do is shut up and listen. Whether it be our spoiler of how the battle royal is gonna play out, or our proclaimation of being dual MVPs, you should soak it all in and realise this isn't just us calling our shot. Or being arrogant. But us telling you what you need to be hearing.
Luka allows Amari to continue.
Amari: See, others are gonna sugarcoat it. They'll use flowery language so that it doesn't hurt people's feelings. Nah. F*ck that noise. We couldn't care less if you wanna cry about it. Or if you wanna claim that we bit off more than we can supposedly chew - like you know what we are capable of chewing.
Luka: What we care about is making sure that when you step to us, you come correct. You come right at us, so that we can knock you down and move onto the next one. Take a number.
The two pretend to be handing out numbers on cards to people.
Amari: We'll be waiting.
Both: Just try us.
They stand up, walking off, having made their statement loud and clear.
